An Underwriting Technician provides high-level support to the underwriting team. Under general supervision, they are responsible for the timely and accurate processing of low-complexity quotes, endorsements, inspections, renewals, reinstatements, cancellations, underwriting claim referrals and agent/insured correspondence. They are responsible for making decisions that adhere to the company’s underwriting criteria and support organizational growth and profit objectives. In addition, they build strong agency relationships, make timely and appropriate decisions, and provide excellent service to all customers.

What You Will Do As A Underwriter Technician:

  • Perform a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines; these are both routine and non-routine tasks

  • While this person will work with guidance, they will have the ability to work within designated authority and following established procedures, routinely select and evaluate the least complex risks. -

  • Maintain an understanding of state guidelines and state-specific forms.

  • Upon request from underwriters, may review underwriting requirements and recommend acceptance or denial utilizing standardized procedures.

  • Provide assistance and/or training to other Underwriting Technicians.

  • Use research and analysis to develop practical underwriting solutions consistent with organizational objectives.

  • Evaluate basic risk characteristics and analyze historical and potential account performance to make sound decisions.

  • Maintain a basic understanding of personal lines products, coverages, and eligibility.

  • Assist Underwriters by communicating with agencies on routine matters.

  • Assist in supporting carrier book rolls.

  • Identify and analyze accounts and make sound underwriting decisions within assigned authority.

  • Make efficient and accurate decisions to meet department service standards.

  • Execute policies and procedures within the assigned authority level.

  • Consistently demonstrate our customer experience standards by responding promptly, maintaining a positive attitude, building rapport, showing empathy, and representing Porch Values.

  • Recommend solutions to assigned Underwriters for risks outside authority level

  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring as an Underwriting Technician:

  • 3 years' work experience, including some experience in Insurance

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge of policy processing procedures and documentation.

  • Basic knowledge of applicable insurance products.

  • Proven team member with strong collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in exceeding co-worker or customer experience standards, including prompt responses, positive attitude, rapport building, empathy and representation of Porch values.

  • Demonstrated competency in performing non-routine tasks while following established procedures and guidelines.

  • Ability to multitask and solve problems effectively.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Effective time-management skills.

  • Self-motivated with a desire to succeed.

  • Ability to adapt quickly and positively to changes.

  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight.

  • Understanding and adherence to compliance and regulatory requirements.

  • Willingness to perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred

  • 6 months of underwriting experience

  • Basic understanding of personal lines products, coverages, and eligibility requirements.

  • Knowledge of underwriting requirements and some experience in making recommendations for Underwriters to make acceptance or denial using standardized procedures.

  • Experience supporting carrier book rolls

Pay Range - : $25.97 - $34.62 Hourly
