The Communication Advisory will be part of the Executive Office’s Communications Team, leading and shaping how priorities, policies, and impact are communicated to the public and County teams. This role will partner across departments and leadership to ensure clear, consistent, and compelling messaging across a range of internal and external communications.

This position is ideal for a communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment, brings strong editorial judgment and strategic thinking, and is motivated by public service. The successful candidate is a trusted partner who can translate complex policy into clear, engaging narratives for a variety of audiences.

Job Duties

  • Lead development and publication of the Executive’s monthly public facing newsletter.

  • Translate complex information into clear, engaging content for public audiences.

  • Coordinate and execute with multiple internal office teams to curate future outreach days.

  • Lead development and editing of blog and website content highlighting what’s happening in the Executive office.

  • Ensure digital content aligns with branding and accessibility standards.

  • Coordinate with county departments on communications and media strategy.

  • Draft and edit talking points, speeches, and remarks for events and keynote appearances.

  • Review and support production of photography, graphics, and video used in communications materials.

  • Support development of communications materials for major announcements and initiatives.

  • Support drafting and editing news releases, media statements, and media advisories.

  • Identify emerging communication needs and provide strategic messaging support.

  • Manage multiple communications projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Collaborate with leadership and subject matter experts to develop accurate and effective messaging.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public affairs, or a related field, including experience writing and editing for multiple audiences and platforms.\

The ideal candidate has:

  • Skills in writing, editing and sharing information in a clear, concise and plain-spoken manner.

  • Ability to translate policy, budget and complex topics into compelling, community centered story telling along with generating and executing creative ideas for storytelling that highlights government and community work.

  • Experience writing speeches, remarks, or talking points for leadership.

  • Experience developing media materials such as news releases or media statements.

  • Experience producing employee communications or internal messaging.

  • Experience developing website or blog content.

  • Strong organization and project management skills.

  • Strong communications planning experience.

  • Skilled in working under pressure and meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, politically sensitive environment with sound judgement and situational awareness.

  • Ability to work independently and be comfortable making real-time decisions in collaboration with communications leadership.
