King County's Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) provides equitable opportunities for people to be healthy, happy, and connected to community.The Adult Services Division (ASD) of DCHS works in partnership with communities to develop, support and provide human services programs focused on achieving results in housing stability, financial stability, healthy living and social engagement for veterans, servicemembers and their families; older adults and their caregivers; and other populations who experience vulnerability. The division’s work also includes efforts to strengthen connections within, and improve access to, the human services system.


ASD Employment Resource Specialists – Social Services Specialists are key members of the ASD Employment Resource Program team, an important component of the overall Resource Access Team, which is charged with developing and maintaining a unified systems approach to the ASD portfolio of resources. These positions will work a rotating schedule at various King County Health Through Housing sites to provide engagement, information, and resource referrals to residents, and resource navigation support to on-site case management.


This recruitment is to fill three Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) positions that are anticipated to last 24 months. If filled by a King County employee who has passed their initial probation, the TLT will be as a Special Duty Assignment (SDA).

Job Duties

To be considered minimally qualified applicant must demonstrate a background that provides the knowledge, skills and ability to:

  • Engage with residents at King County Health Through Housing sites within geographic King County.
  • Provide employment-related engagement and resources to King County residents and aid them in accessing them.
  • Conduct surveys, gather feedback, and coordinate/staff employment fairs and hiring events.
  • Identify and establish working relationships with community partners and organizations.
  • Provide group and individual engagement to residents, including presentations and workshops to share information about employment related activities and services within King County.
  • Research additional resources to aid residents in their employment pathway journey.
  • Gather and track information on service needs, service delivery, and trends.
  • Staff community resource fairs, in coordination with community outreach efforts.
  • Serve on committees and task forces, as appropriate.
  • Engage in continuous process improvement around engagement and service delivery.
  • Encourage a knowledge-sharing culture across the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO HAVE:

  • Deep knowledge of equity and social justice principles and practices, and understanding of the effects of place, race, policy, and system-based inequities on marginalized communities.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral systems.
  • Experience working or volunteering in employment support, outreach, and community engagement programs for adults.
  • Skill in working and building rapport with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic, populations.
  • Customer service skills (discretion, patience, etiquette, professionalism).
  • Computer skills and proficiency in a variety of software programs, including MS Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook.
  • Skill in written and oral communications for a variety of audiences and the ability to manage work across several sites.
  • Valid Driver's License or the ability to travel throughout the county in a timely manner.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge/Experience with the Department of Community and Human Services.
  • Bilingual or multilingual ability in English/Spanish, Chinese, Somali, Ukrainian, Arabic, Russian, Amharic, Vietnamese, Persian or other Persian dialects.



ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:

  • This position has been designated Non-Mission Critical. Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather.   • The ASD Employment Resource Program team works in 100% in-person. The primary onsite location is 645 Andover Park West, Suite 100, Tukwila. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
  • This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. This position meets the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible with supervisory pre-approval.
  • This position is not represented by a union.
