Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) SCADA Section has an opportunity for a Sr. SCADA Engineer. The SCADA Section maintains the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system used to monitor and control SPU's water, drainage, and wastewater systems which serves the greater Seattle area. The SCADA Section interfaces with planners, engineering, operations, maintenance, information technology, and other functional groups impacted by SCADA. The section is responsible for long-term planning and system development, as well as 24 hour / 7 days per week continuous operations.

The Sr. SCADA Engineer will ensure effective design, operations and maintenance of equipment comprising the SCADA system including hardware and communication systems.

Job Responsibilities

  1. This position is responsible for instrumentation and control engineering support across all lines of business in SPU
    • Specifies process instrumentation and application
    • Process safety instrumentation compliance
    • Control panel project design cycle development and review
    • Test plan development in support of commissioning activities
  1. The position supports multiple projects flight and in various phases of planning.
    • Drainage and wastewater rehab program
    • Ship canal water quality projects in construction TEPS and Ballad conveyance
    • Solid waste line of business compactor replacements
    • Water distribution system reservoirs, pressure reducing station and pump stations
  1. The prioritize day-today services of this position
    • Instrumentation and Control engineering best practice compliance
    • Capital project and Operations project design review, and development support
    • Control system Project management
    • Act as UO&M CxA and develop commissioning planning lead
    • Manages design standards and guidelines
    • Oversee and is responsible for designing quality Work Environment/Physical

Demands:

  • Field assignments may entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances, and high voltage energized equipment
  • May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Qualifications

Experience: Five (5) years professional electrical engineering experience

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering OR other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to do professional instrumentation and control engineering work

Additionally

License/Certification:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Washington State
  • Current driver license or evidence of equivalent mobility

Desired Skills/Experience:

The scope of the job and the business needs experience in instrumentation and controls, at an expert level understanding and capability in implementing standards requirements in the following areas:

  1. Experience with UL 508A national standard to the design of control panels.
  2. Experience with ISA 5.4 national standards to design control loop drawings or Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's).
  3. Experience with ISA/IEC 62443 national standard for the development of written control strategies.
  4. Experience with ANSI/OSHA 29CFR1910.119 to identify, mitigate, plan, design, strategize and address industrial process hazards.
  5. Experience with ANSI/ISA 84.00.01-2004 to address safety instrumentation life cycle.
  6. Experience with IEC 61131 to support industrial controller programming strategies and development of life cycle.

Additional Information

This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be required to come into the office a minimum of twice a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor and may be subject to change based on business needs.

The full salary range for this position is: $74.99 - $87.31 per hour
