Job Summary
Vancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is currently seeking seasonal workers for the positions of Special Events Staff, Park Attendant, and Building Attendant. These openings will include part-time day, evening, and weekend hours. The person in this position will perform a variety of duties in facilities services and event support for city sponsored, partnered, and permitted events programmed in parks throughout the City or at the Vancouver arts hub.

Job Details

Event Staff

- Dates: Primary dates needed for City events are between July-August
- Staff Hours: 15-30 hours per week with varied shift times
- Mandatory training date: 6/18
- Locations: Vancouver Waterfront Park, Columbia Tech Center Park, variety of parks throughout Vancouver
- Events: Waterfront Concert Series, Movies in the Park Series, Sunday Sounds Concert Series and Vancouver Arts and Music Festival

Park Attendant Leader

- Dates: May - September
- Staff Hours: 10-35 hours per week with varied shifts
- Locations: Esther Short Park, Vancouver Waterfront Park
- Events: Permitted events held at Esther Short Park and the Vancouver Waterfront Park. May include festivals, cultural events and walk/runs

Building Attendant Leader

- Dates: Ongoing - Temporary
- Staff Hours: 5-15 hours per week with varied shifts
- Locations: Vancouver Arts Hub
Job Details

Essential Functions:

  • Provide a high level of customer service; project and maintain a positive image on behalf of the City of Vancouver with all those contacted in the course of work
  • Understand and implement City of Vancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department operating principles, policies, and procedures
  • Embrace and support the diverse backgrounds and abilities of all performers, city staff and community members
  • Provide minor first aid as necessary; fill out accident reports
  • Perform other duties as required through assigned program

Position Requirements:

  • Must be 16 years or older (18 years or older for Park/Building Attendant position)
  • Current CPR/First Aid card within 30 days of employment. Offered by City of Vancouver.
  • Work a flexible schedule including, days, evenings and weekends.
  • Successful completion of a background check for applicants 18 and older.
  • Successfully pass employment references.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, adhere to dress code, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in stressful or challenging situations.
  • Comply with policies and procedures of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.
  • Participate in rigorous physical activities that may require heavy lifting and/or long periods of standing/walking.
  • Work in indoor and outdoor settings that may require exposure to weather elements
  • Successfully complete trainings/certification as required by position.

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Relevant work, volunteer, training, or personal experience in similar event programming
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Ability to listen and carry-out instructions both written and verbal
  • Ability to quickly and effectively respond to emergencies and report all accidents and safety health hazards according to City guidelines
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with the public, vendors, other city employees
  • Monitor and interact with a large, diverse group of community members while multitasking duties and expectations
Qualifications

Qualifications:

Events Staff (16 years or older) $17.13 -$19.87

  • Assist in set-up, take down and organization of event supplies/equipment (stages, inflatable bandshell and movie screen, canopies, tables and supplies, etc.)
  • Assist in ensuring cleanliness of park (litter pick-up, garbage and recycle bag collections)
  • Assist event vendors with basic needs and information (unloading, loading and assistance with set-up of booth spaces)
  • Display high level of customer service and comfort with interacting with the public during special events
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with all event vendors, city staff and the public
  • Ability to safely drive and operate city vehicles and equipment

Park/Building Attendant (18 years or older) $18.91 – $23.04

  • Work independently or alongside other park attendant staff and enforcing park/building rules and regulations
  • Provide information and assistance to users of facilities; ensure users are aware of all rules and regulations (i.e. turn on electricity and lights, turn off glockenspiel, unlock stage, etc.)
  • Ensure the event is in compliance with all items outlined in signed letter of agreement/event permit contract
  • Ensure the safety of individuals and security of facilities; evaluate and take appropriate action to correct unusual situations including fights, thefts, lost children, overcrowded situations, and behavior problems. Including documentation of situations that arise
  • Assist Event Managers with equipment set-up of equipment included in permit (spider box, ADA cord covers, etc.)
  • Provide guidance and problem solving in the moment to Event Managers and event vendors when compliance issues arise
  • Inspect buildings, facilities, and equipment before and after the event; report damage and needed repairs including graffiti and vandalism
  • Provide minor first aid as necessary; fill out accident reports
